Before we get started, let’s make it clear that whenever I use the terms “I” or “me” below I am referring to myself, Nathan Birch, sole owner and Webmaster of Zoologycomic.com
What kind of data do you record?
– Passive Data
Simply by visiting my site certain information about you will be recorded and reported to me by my website’s statistics aggregator. Your operating system, web browser, country of origin, length of stay on the site, and what pages you visited will be recorded. This information is only reported to me in aggregate — for instance my stats program will report to me that “65% of Zoology readers visit from the United States” but I can’t see who those readers are specifically. The IP addresses of the last 100 visitors to the site can be viewed by me, but no lasting archive of IP addresses is compiled. Only the most recent 100 can be viewed by me.
– Active Data
In order to leave a comment on the site you must enter an email address. Your email address and IP address will be permanently recorded with your comment. Your email and IP address will only be viewable by me and not other readers. You may also, optionally, include a website along with your comment — this will be viewable by other readers.
Anyone who registers with the website will also have their email address and IP address permanently recorded.
Do you share any of my information with anybody else?
I will never share or sell any of your personally identifying data (your email address, your IP address) to anybody. Ever.
General, non-identifying data may be used in aggregate to convince advertisers to purchase space on the site, and your Web browser’s history may be used to determine what ads you see, but data that would identify you personally is never shared or sold.
So what do you use my data for?
Information reported to me by my website’s statistics aggregator is used by me to track general trends in readership. Your email and IP addresses are recorded along with comments as a guard against spammers — I will never contact the email you leave with your comments. The exception to this rule is if I find a user has attempted to hack or otherwise damage the site, in which case their IP and email addresses may be forwarded to the authorities.
What about your Zoology Store? How do I know my information is secure there?
The Zoology Store is run by Printfection. You can check out their privacy policy right here.
